The bees forage on wild flowers from local hedgerows, trees, gardens and fields, these natural sources include; blackthorn, rose, apple, cherry, blackberry, field maple and plum, producing a very beautiful and delicate tasting honey.
In the British Isles the native sub-species of honey bee is commonly known as the Dark European Honey Bee, the Latin name being Apis Mellifera Mellifera.
In the summer months the colony will grow to 50,000 plus and the bees will travel in any direction up to 3 miles in search of pollen and nectar. To produce one pot of honey it is often said it is the equivalent of one bee travelling around the world.
